If something isn’t working as expected, the steps below should help you get back on track. Work through the relevant section and reach out via GitHub Issues if the problem persists.
macOS Gatekeeper may block Rundraft from opening if it was downloaded outside the Mac App Store. This is a standard macOS security feature, not a problem with the app itself.
1

Locate Rundraft in your Applications folder

Open Finder and navigate to your Applications folder.
2

Open System Settings

Go to Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
3

Allow Rundraft to open

Scroll down to the Security section. You should see a message saying Rundraft was blocked. Click Open Anyway.
4

Confirm in the dialog

A confirmation dialog will appear. Click Open Anyway again to launch Rundraft.
You only need to do this once. After approving Rundraft, it will open normally on future launches.
If Rundraft feels sluggish or stops responding, a few quick steps usually resolve it.
1

Quit and relaunch the app

Press Command + Q to fully quit Rundraft, then reopen it from your Applications folder or Dock. A full quit clears any temporary state that may be causing the slowdown.
2

Check your macOS version

Rundraft requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. Go to Apple menu > About This Mac to confirm your macOS version. If you’re running an older version, update your Mac before relaunching.
3

Free up system resources

Open Activity Monitor (in Applications > Utilities) and check whether another process is consuming unusually high CPU or memory. Quitting resource-heavy apps can improve Rundraft’s performance.
Keeping macOS up to date ensures the best performance and compatibility with Rundraft.
If changes to your draft aren’t being saved, the issue is usually related to disk space or file access permissions.
1

Check available disk space

Go to Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info, then scroll to Storage. If your disk is nearly full, free up space by deleting unused files or emptying the Trash before trying again.
2

Verify file access permissions

Rundraft needs permission to read and write files on your Mac. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders and make sure Rundraft has access enabled.
3

Try saving manually

Press Command + S to trigger a manual save. If you see an error message, note the exact wording — it can point to the specific cause.
4

Restart the app

Quit Rundraft with Command + Q and relaunch it. Reopen your draft and check whether it saved correctly before you closed it.
If you see an error mentioning a read-only volume or a permission denied message, the draft’s save location may be restricted. Move the draft to your Documents or Desktop folder and try again.
Sharing requires an active internet connection and the correct permissions to be in place.
1

Check your internet connection

Make sure your Mac is connected to the internet. Try loading a webpage in your browser to confirm the connection is working.
2

Check sharing permissions in the app

Open the draft you want to share and look for any permission warnings inside Rundraft. Follow any prompts to grant the required access.
3

Check macOS network permissions

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and confirm that Rundraft is listed and enabled. Some sharing features may require local network access.
4

Try again after a moment

Temporary network issues can interrupt sharing. Wait a few seconds and try sharing the draft again.
If Rundraft crashes every time you open it, reinstalling the app and ensuring macOS is up to date usually resolves the problem.
1

Check for macOS updates

Go to Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update. Install any available updates and restart your Mac before trying to open Rundraft again.
2

Reinstall Rundraft

Delete Rundraft from your Applications folder by dragging it to the Trash and emptying it. Then download the latest version from the Rundraft website and install it fresh.
3

Check for conflicting software

Some third-party security or system optimization tools can interfere with app launches. Try temporarily disabling them and reopening Rundraft to see if they’re the cause.
4

Report the crash

If the app still crashes after reinstalling, open Console (in Applications > Utilities), filter for “Rundraft”, and copy any crash reports. Share them on GitHub Issues so the team can investigate.
macOS generates a crash report each time an app unexpectedly quits. These reports are invaluable for diagnosing the problem, so including them in your bug report speeds up the resolution.

Still need help?

If none of the steps above resolve your issue, open a report on GitHub Issues with as much detail as possible — your macOS version, what you were doing when the problem occurred, and any error messages you saw.
